Graffiti; Art or Vandalism?

Hello, my name is Daniel Rough and I am currently creating a radio documentary on graffiti trying to establish if graffiti is as much an art form as a painting hanging in a gallery or just plain vandalism sprayed on walls by hooded youths. If you have any opinions on the matter, feel free to drop them to me in an ask.

Clare Gray’s Questions

As a museum curator do you believe graffiti is as much of as an art form as a piece in a gallery?

Why do you think artists like Banksy’s work is blessed and others are persecuted?

If a graffiti artist was to come forward to a museum do you think they would be taken as serious as a traditional artist?

Graffiti can also voice the opinions of social and political agendas, do you believe this is a good platform?

Kism’s Questions

What got you into graffiti?

How do you feel about graffiti being used for a political protest?

As an artist do you believe that your work could be displayed in museums or galleries?

Do you believe it is right to be able receive a criminal conviction for something that could be perceived as art?

What do you think justifies Banksy being protected by government authorities and not other graffiti artist?

Is graffiti an art?

At what point does graffiti become vandalism?

Is the subculture to graffiti a positive one?

Toilet graffiti is often left unpainted in various clubs and bars for an effect that reflects the club.
